Data Collection of Rubber Fender Design

Basic Items for Rubber Fender’s Selection
- 1) Berthing energy
- 2) Allowable reaction force from fender to the structure
- 3) Allowable hull (surface) pressure
- 4) Position and area to be protected by fendering system
- 5) Natural force (wind, current, wave)
Required Information
(Note *: important)
Vessels
- 1) Type * : General cargo, Oil tanker, Container carrier, Bulk carrier, Ferry boat, Passenger boat. Work boat, Tugboat, Warship.
- 2) Weight * : D.W.T., D.P.T., or gross ton.
- 3) Length: Loa or Lpp
- 4) Breadth
- 5) Draft
- 6) Free board
Berthing facility (Berthing structure)
- 1) Type * : Wharf, Jetty, Pier, Dolphin or Pontoon
- 2) Structure : Pile type or gravity type
- 3) Elevation * : Top deck (platform) level, High water and Low water level. For existing quay structure, the following additional information are required:
- 4) *Space for fender installation with its elevations from sea water level.
- 5) *Horizontal allowable force ac ting on the structure.
Natural condition
- 1) Wind: Direction and speed
- 2) Current: Direction and speed
- 3) Wave: Height, period and direction
As a general rule of fender design, the rubber fender manufacturer should use the actual values of the ship to calculate the berthing energy.
